Well...I approved your post, but I gotta say, I read the article you attached and I absolutely do NOT agree that children develop anorexia solely because of "f**ked up families". In fact, the research increasing shows that more than 50% of people with an ED have a genetic predisposition that is triggered by some event in their life, which could include damaging family dynamics, but also includes trauma, dieting and numerous other things. Family dynamics had nothing to do with my development of an eating disorder at the age of 6. And yes, there are a number of my female family members who have developed EDs, who have had entirely different experiences and triggers.

Anyway. This was your first post. How about you make your way to the Introductions section at the top of the forum and tell us a little about yourself and why you're here?

Interesting topic. I must be honest- I disagree with nearly everything in that article.

I actually find this almost hurtful. My mother blames herself extremely for my eating disorder, and she might as well blame herself for the fact that I got a paper cut yesterday. I am very close to my family and value them incredibly. I can honestly say they have not played even the slightest role in the development of my eating disorder. Nobody in my family has ever had an eating disorder. For me, family just doesn't come into it.

A little off topic, but I always get a little... annoyed? when texts try and insist 'all anorexia is because OF:'

I genuinely don't think there's one reason alone. I don't think you can say 'all anorexia is because of skinny supermodels', or 'child abuse', or 'control', or 'not wanting to grow up', or 'family problems'. I don't like blanket statements like that.

This.

I did agree with a few things in the comments... I've read Brave Girl Eating and found myself annoyed with the author quite a few times.
