YOU REALLY WANT TO WATCH THIS
http://www.storyofstuff.org/movies-all/story-of-stuff/ok so we all know about the garbage and the consuming and all the problems that our present society with its capitalistic focus has brought us. not to mention the economic crisis and maybe you have heard about the occupy wallstreet movement.
yes yes yes... but what can you do? i personally am not a radical politacal activist although i hugely respect them and honour what they do most of the time. and i sometimes feel like a victim of the situation, feeling i cant contribute other than singing this or that petition and informing myself about stuff.
so heres the story about stuff.
and what i take away from this video is: no, human society does not just organise itself this way naturally, there is a huge interest of certain people that we behave this way. and the answer is: we can change this and walk towards sustainability.
the truth is actually that we will have to sooner or later. either everyone of us starts thinking about where stuff comes from and where it goes and take responsibility in their consuming patterns or it will be forced upon them at some point. all those wars and much of poverty and mistey are caused by this system and if you dont notice it now, you will as soon as the resources are exploited. and hell, we are not far from that.
i live in europe and i study at a university focused on sustainability and natural resources management. i am in agriculture, but we need this attitude in every field and most of all IN OUR SYSTEM! it is just so natural, we only need to understand all the implications of our behaviour.
so watch this and if you want tell me what you think of it.
