Great tips to help cope about food talk.

I have a difficult time when people talk about diets and calories which unfortunately, happens way to often in my life. I'm going to try to put some of these tips to use the next time I'm in that situation.

Oh, and just for the record, I really like this blog. I subscribed to it on google reader which is a big compliment coming from me. In addition to posts like this, she also does a "Sunday Smorgasboard" which is a list of different psych and ED articles.

I haven't found anything on it particularly triggering but I would say read with caution at first and see how you feel about the material.

I actually try not to take lunch with a certain coworker (nice person otherwise) because of how he goes on and on about carbs....

I usually try to engage people in a discussion about diets and set points (or rather, ranges) and question their views on weight and health. E.g., facts about BMI and life expectancy, seeing weight loss rather as a possible (thoug not necessary) side effect of a healthy lifestyle etc... And somehow, I found that a lot of people are happy to hear someone spell it out.
Though sometimes, I'm not sure if I want to convince them or myself.

So, I guess I'm not so much for trying to get people to STFU about it, but to spell out how I see it and replace the usual diet-talk with a different view.

In case of people who know about the ED: They are usually kind enough to oblige if I ask them to change the subject because it stresses me out.
